The Royal Awards Barcelona for Urban Innovation was presented on the 5th of December 2002 at the ‘Saló de Cent’ in the city of Barcelona. Out of the 5 projects and initiatives selected to participate in the final round of presentation, Kronsberg Waste Management from Hannover, Germany was elected most eligible.

The Winner

Kronberg Waste Management Concept: The concept aim is preventative waste management planning in place of conventional waste disposal strategies. Consistent waste avoidance and recycling was practised from the beginning and throughout all planning and construction phases.The Waste concept is in three parts: the building waste concept, the commercial and domestic waste concept and communication / cooperation.
