The European 2003 illustration contest will be launched as a poster contest on tomorrow’s environment. The objective is to encourage children, art students and creative citizens in Europe to engage in a dialogue on present day environmental issues by visually expressing their thoughts, ideas and visions through the art of poster making. The topics of the contest will be Energy, Agriculture and Tourism.
The winning posters of both the national and international competitions will be exhibited on the AFA JCDecaux information stands and bus shelters available to them in Denmark and in all the European countries where AFA JCDecaux are represented.

In 2001 the Royal Awards for Sustainability launched the first illustration contest with the objective of giving school children in the Oeresunds Region a voice on their future. Due to the success and good reception of the visionary illustrations - the illustrations were used in EEA reports and became the central element in a post card series - the cities of Copenhagen and Malmoe decided to repeat the illustrations contest in 2002 presenting the awards in Malmoe. Furthermore the Royal Awards for Sustainability launched the 2002 illustration contest as an international European contest inviting school children from the 31 EEA member countries to participate. The result was remarkable: More than 500 entries from 28 countries were submitted, approximately 25.000 people frequented this year’s exhibition at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen and the demand for exhibition catalogues, sticker stamps and postcards has been tremendous. The exhibition has since been presented in Kongens Lyngby and is going to Holbaek, Aarhus, Wageningen in the Netherlands and Slovenia. Furthermore there have been national exhibitions in Ireland, Slovakia and Barcelona, strengthening the European Network.
